口译的三项基本功―铁嘴.橡皮肚子.飞毛腿

乍一看这个标题，可能有的同学感到好笑，这是什么意思啊？口译的基本功不是听、想、说吗？怎么会叫“铁嘴、橡皮肚子、飞毛腿呢”？呵呵，其实同学们说的没错，口译的基本功确实是听、想和说这三项。而我这里要说的基本功主要是从口译的职业从业角度来说的，这也是新东方在线本从事二十几年的口译和同声传译所得出来的一个心得和体会，下面就分别解释一下这三项基本功是什么意思。 首先是“铁嘴”。这个家应该都能理解是什么意思。口译中听力是基础，在听懂说话者所说的内容的基础上对信息进行加工，也就是我们通常所讲的“想”是关键，那么在听懂了、想明白了之后，把说话人的意思清楚的转换成目标语言，也就是“译”，这是口译的后的步骤，也是重要的一步。可能有的同学会说：既然听懂了，也记住了，想明白了，说出来是很简单的，没什么难的。其实没有那么简单的，我们做口译的经常会出现这种情况，就是听懂了，记得了，但就是说不出来，出现这种情况有时不是译员本身的水平的问题，而是由多种原因造成的。出现这种情况的原因主要有以下几种： 一，对目标语的理解不够。比如说英译中，有时候我们明明能听懂外国人说话的意思，可是翻译成中文的时候就是找不到合适的表达方式，还有一种情况是：明明每一个英文单词都是常见的，没有不认识的，但就是不知道怎么用中文表达。比如说：The world fears time and time fears pyramid.翻译成中文意思就是：时间可以改变世界，但是改变不了金字塔。（唯金字塔是永恒的），这句话我在课上问同学们，几乎都不知道。 第二，说话者出现口误。只要是说话就难免会出现口误，口误也有两种，一种是很明显的，比如把说把某个的职务说错了，“某市长”说成“某省长”，比如说把中国的首都说成是“上海”等一些常识性的错误，遇到这些口误，我们一般都能够马上意识到是口误，进而在翻译的时候会改过来，避免出现笑话。但是还有一种口误就属于隐藏很深的了，比如：把”It's a great pleasure to have met you”说成”It's a great pressure to have met you”，虽一字之差，但要表达的意思是截然相反的，如果我们翻译的时候注意力不集中，不够谨慎的话，照字翻译，那就要出问题的。 第三，疲劳过度。做过口译的人都知道，其实口译是很辛苦的，注意力长时间的高度集中，不断的在两种语言之间切换，不停的说话。尤其是同声传译的时候，连续做到半个小时的时候，已经讲不出来了，即使当时头脑很清醒，也听懂说话人说的话，但是嘴就是张不开，达到人体的极限了。 当然还有其他很多的原因，我就不一一说了。总之，练就一张铁嘴是不容易的，是需要不断的经验积累的。 下面说说这个“橡皮肚子”。我在给同学们上课的时候，讲到宴会的时候，同学们都笑问我说：“陶老师，你参加过那么多次的政府接待的宴会，一定品尝过不少美味佳肴吧？”同学们有这个想法是很正常的，但是做过宴会口译的同仁一定会跟我有同感：哪里有时间吃啊？！这边菜一上来，服务员解说这个菜的名称，怎么做的，口味特点等，这个时候，们在陪外宾一起品尝这道菜，但外宾听不懂啊，我们做口译的就要翻译啊，翻译的时候是没有时间吃菜的。好不容易等到和外宾品尝完这道菜，我们翻译刚要吃，那边就讲话了：“这次来北京对北京有什么印象啊？今天爬长城有什么感受啊？住的还习惯吧？”（吃饭的场合一般不是很正式，气氛也比较轻松，所以话题也比较多），讲话外宾又听不懂，你翻译总不能说：“等一会，我先吃一口”吧，这时就要立刻放下筷子开始翻译。然后是外宾说话，又要翻译。几句话聊完了，下一道菜就上来了，于是又开始新一轮的翻译。基本上一顿饭下来，吃不到几口。我跟学生讲：“人民会堂的国宴我现场看过很多回，但就是没有机会吃，不是不想吃，确实没有时间吃。”学生就问：“那怎么办啊？不吃饭不饿啊？”我就回答说：“饿啊，没办法啊，就只能忍着，等宴会散了回到宾馆吃泡面，我们早就练成了一副橡皮肚子了，哈哈。”话虽是这么说，但长期下来也是吃不消，所以我们做口译的得胃病比较多。 后一项是叫“飞毛腿”。这个一般是做陪同翻译的译员要具备的素质。我们做翻译的怕的就是陪出国访问，很多同学都说出国多好啊，多好玩啊。出国是好玩啊，我们翻译就遭罪了啊。一下了飞机，就问：“小陶，我的行李在哪里啊？”“请放心，我增加10分钟后行李出现在的面前。”说完就撒开腿去取的行李（出国的行李都很多的。）如果要是转机的话，就更麻烦了，那些行李简直要人命。前面我说到了我们做翻译的一个职业病就是胃病，其实我们还有一个职业病——肩周炎，这都是提行李提出来的。到了国外，又不懂外语，做什么都需要翻译，甚至连买牙膏都要翻译去买，如果要是没有一双“飞毛腿”的话，还真不一定能胜任这个工作。 如果有任何英语方面的问题请咨询,新东方在线：<a href="http://wanbang.soxsok.com/" target="_blank">http://wanbang.soxsok.com/</a>
